Purdy played flag football until the age of 12, before he made the transition to tackle football.

It was then that the future NFL star knew exactly which position he wanted to play.

“His very first year at tackle, Coach goes, ‘Brock, if you’re not the quarterback what position do you want to play?’ Purdy’s mother Carrie told ESPN.

“He goes, ‘I want to be quarterback for this team.’

“And by the end of the year he was the quarterback.

“And he’s been quarterback ever since then.”

Purdy’s dad Shawn revealed that his son had very big dreams when he started playing the game.

“At a young age he said, ‘Dad when I win the Heisman, I’m going to thank God, I’m going to thank Mom and Dad, and then thank players that meant a lot to me’,” Shawn said.

“He didn’t win the Heisman. But we’re so proud of him because he’s never wavered from what he set out to do.”

Purdy has had an unconventional journey to the Super Bowl, where the 49ers will take on the Kansas City Chiefs at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday.

The 49ers star has overcome monumental odds after being selected with the final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.

But he knew he knew he wanted to play football from the age of five, watching Tim Tebow and the Florida Gators.

Brock Purdy left near speechless after being asked about Lee Harvey Oswald comparison in bizarre pre-Super Bowl question

“I would sit on our coffee table at home and just watch and be so fascinated with the hype of the game and the environment,” Purdy said on the 49ers “You’ve Got Mail” podcast.

“I wanted to play in an environment like that. Watching the Gators when I was young, it definitely got me going on the football trend.”

Purdy was also determined to play quarterback, with his dad Shawn a huge fan of Miami Dolphins superstar Dan Marino.

He even wears the No. 13 jersey in honor of Marino.

“When you have kids you always ask them what they want to be when they grow up,” Carrie said on the Sports Spectrum podcast.

“You know, pharmacist, doctor or whatever. At five years old, I asked Brock ‘what are you going to be?’

“It was football player. In junior high, ‘Brock, you got a backup plan?’

“And it was, ‘I’m gonna be a football player, mom.’

“In college, Brock said, ‘I’m going to school for business, but I’m going to be a football player.’

“He never, ever wavered from playing in the NFL, ever.”
