Ciara opened up to Summer Walker about her relationship to the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback in a conversation on Apple Music’s ‘Over It Radio’
Marriage requires hard work, even for Ciara and Russell Wilson.
The Grammy winner, 39, opened up about her marriage to the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback, 36, in conversation with Summer Walker on a new episode of the Apple Music show Over It Radio and revealed a few rules they maintain in their relationship.
“I would say communication rules a nation. What I will give my husband a lot of credit for is that he can communicate really well. And I think maybe it’s the quarterback in him because he’s big on leadership, big on teamwork, big on being together,” said Ciara, who shares son Win, 4, and daughters Sienna, 7, and Amora, 1, with Wilson. She’s also mom to son Future, 10.
While the “Oh” singer can admittedly be “stubborn” as well as “spicy and feisty sometimes,” at the end of the day, she explained, “I really feel grateful for our ability to communicate with each other. Because I feel like there’s nothing I can’t go to him about. And even if we have to find our way through it in the conversation, I feel very confident we’re going to make it on the other side.”
In addition to communicating and “not going to bed mad,” Ciara said she and Wilson continue “dating each other” even after eight years of marriage.
“We have our precious babies and that’s a lot. And plus me, doing everything that I’m trying to do every day. Grinding and the hustle. And then he’s also doing his thing and grinding. And I think sometimes you can get monotonous if you don’t look up and pay attention. And so we are very committed to date night,” she told Walker, 28.
The married couple’s date night occurs “every Friday” due to Wilson’s football schedule, “and it’s something I look forward to,” said Ciara.
“I feel, like, the beginning feelings all over every time, getting cute for him and he comes out looking cute and looking sexy,” she noted. “But that’s fun. It helps us to keep things fresh.”
The Color Purple actress remarked that much of her time is occupied by motherhood, and she often feels “mommy guilt” for taking time to focus on her and Wilson’s relationship.
“But what is so beautiful about us committing to us is that it actually is a great deep breath for me in the midst of my crazy week,” detailed Ciara. “I’m actually looking forward to going out, him taking me out, picking a restaurant. And I think it keeps things fresh. And I just feel so blessed that we have that.”
